We didn’t make a splash – but we didn’t sink either!
Wacky, colourful and great fun is how the Jones Myers team described our first foray into Dragon Boat racing when we took the plunge at Roundhay Park to boost funds for the fantastic Martin House Children’s Hospice.
The Jones Myers ‘Purple Pirates’ team, appropriately donned in our corporate colours and equipped with Johnny Depp styled cutlasses and eye patches, leapt into the longboats and threw themselves into the spirit of the day supported by friends and family members aged from eight to eighty.
Highlights of the colourful spectacle saw us come 4th in 2 races and 3rd in the middle race – the latter not attributable to our prowess but to the misfortune of one boat and its wet but safe occupants capsizing. We were ultimately placed 38 out of 48 and enjoyed the biggest ever team picnic thanks to everyone bringing a wealth of goodies to whet the rowers’ appetites.
So why did we choose to support Martin House Children’s Hospice? As caring family lawyers with a dedicated Children’s department, we have much empathy with children and much admiration for this charity which works tirelessly to care for children and young people with progressive life limiting illnesses, and provide support to their families.
I’d like to thank our great team and thank everyone who supported us in our adventure as we really appreciate your backing. There is still time if you would like to make a donation via our www.justgiving.com/jonesmyerspurplepirates page.
